Entrance  Antiphon I am the salvation of the people, says the Lord. Should they cry to me in any distress, I will hear them, and I will be their Lord for ever.
1st Reading (Amos 8:4-7) Against those who “buy up the poor for money”.

 

Psalm (Psalm 112) Praise the Lord, who raises the poor.
2nd Reading   (1 Timothy 2:1-8) There should be prayers offered for everyone to God, who wants everyone to be saved.
Acclamation Alleluia, alleluia! Open our heart, O Lord, to accept the words of your

Gospel (Luke 16:1-13) You cannot be a slave both of God and of money.

 

Children There was a man who worked for a rich employer. The worker wasn’t doing a very good job, so the rich man said the worker couldn’t keep his job. The worker knew that he would need friends if times were about to get hard. So he helped the people who owed the rich man money. The worker then had people who would help him when he had no job. Jesus wants us to use what we have wisely. We must use the gifts we have been given well.

ONE DAY RETREAT – LOUGH DERG

To celebrate the year of Mercy the parish is offering a one day

retreat at Lough Derg on Saturday 24th September 2016.

“I bind to myself this day the power of God to guide me.”

Confession, St Patrick.

 

The Living Faith Group of St Colmcille’s are organising a day retreat to a sacred space where you can feel the energy of centuries of prayer.  The day offers a set programme of prayer and reflection and concludes with the celebration of Mass in St Patrick’s Basilica.  Please note footwear stays on!  The cost is £39 per person which includes retreat day, refreshments on arrival and lunch. A £10 deposit is required. Transport will be provided free and the coach will leave St Colmcille’s Church car park at 7.15am and return at approximately 7.30pm.

SCRIPTURE AND PRAYER GROUP

The Scripture and Prayer group will meet again this Tuesday 20th September at 8.00pm. The group meets every third Tuesday of the month in the parish committee room. We will complete the Sundays of Year C and in November, start the Gospel of Matthew, Cycle A. It is only  a small group that meet monthly for some input on the Sunday readings, coupled with short discussions and reflections.

 

WALKING TOUR

To appreciate the rich legacy of Ballyhackamore’s fine ecclesiastical hertiage, there will be a walking tour and talk, beginning at 2.30pm this Thursday 22nd September, starting at St Columba’s, Kings Road. See noticeboard for itinerary or www.ulsterhistoricchurches.org

 

FAITH & LIFE CONVENTION

The Diocese will host the 3rd Faith & Life Convention next Saturday 24th September. This year we will focus on the theme “Faith in a world in need of Mercy”.  Keynote speaker will be Sarah Teather, Director of the Jesuit Refugee Service and former MP and we have a selection of 23 workshops available in the afternoon.  A crèche facility  will be available for children aged 0-4 and there are free passes for young people aged 16 – 21. CAMEL RACING & DISCO 

On Friday 7th October come join in the fun and take part in the Camel Racing & Disco in the Parochial Hall. ALIGN PILATES

SAINT COLMCILLE’S GUIDE UNIT

 

St Colmcille’s Guide Unit caters for girls who are in Primary One and above:

Cygnet section (P1 & P2) this Wednesday 21st September from 6.15pm to 7.15pm; Brigin section (P3 to P6)  this Monday 19th September from 6.30pm to 8.00pm;

Guide section (P7 to age 14)  Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9.00pm;

Ranger section (age 14+)  will meet Monday from 8.15pm to 9.30pm.

The Unit is operated completely by female volunteers, who attend relevant training courses and we are always looking to extend our team.   Anyone over the age of 18 who is willing to help us should contact Philomena on 077 6194 3649.  Training and support will be
given to any new volunteer.

BAPTISM

The next Baptismal Course takes place on Tuesday 20th September in the Iona Room, Parochial Hall from 8.00pm to 9.30pm.                                        Please contact the Parish Office to register attendance or make enquiries.

ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT

Monday and Tuesday from 2.00pm to 9.00pm

in the Chapel of Adoration.

MINISTRY OF WELCOME

 

There is a great need for new Ministers of Welcome for all three weekend masses.

Jim Deeds from the Living Church Organisation will be giving a talk in the Iona Room on Thursday 29th September from 7.30pm to 9.00pm and all Parishoners are welcome. The talk will provide useful tips for those who are already Ministers of Welcome and explaining all about the Ministry of Welcome for anyone who might wish to get involved.

Entrance  Antiphon (Ecclesiasticus 36:18) Give peace, O Lord, to those who wait for you, that your prophets be found true. Hear the prayers of your servant, and of your people Israel.
1st Reading (Exodus 32:7-11. 13-14) The Lord relented and did not bring on his people

the disaster he had threatened.

2nd Reading   (1 Timothy 1:12-17) Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.
Acclamation Alleluia, alleluia! May the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ enlighten

the eyes of our mind, so that we can see what hope his call holds for

us. Alleluia!

Gospel (Luke 15:1- 32) There will be rejoicing in heaven over one repentant

sinner.

Children Jesus tells three stories. One is about a shepherd who leaves ninety-nine sheep to go and find one which is lost. He is delighted to find the lost sheep and has a party to celebrate! In another story a woman searches everywhere for a lost coin and is overjoyed when she finds it!

The third story is about a father who has two sons. The younger son takes his share of the money and leaves home. He spends it all having a good time. Eventually the son decides to go back home to his father and say sorry. The father is so happy to see his son again he throws a huge party for him!

Communion Antiphon (Psalm 35:8) How precious is your mercy, O God! The children of men seek shelter in the shadow of your wings.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION is a time for us to pray, listen and be in the presence of Jesus. Each Holy Hour that we spend with Jesus will deepen his divine peace in our hearts;

ADORERS: More volunteers are needed to cover hours on Monday and Tuesday from 4.00pm -5.00pm and 5.00pm -6.00pm. If you wish to commit on a weekly basis for any of these hourly slots please add your name and tel. no. to the register in the Adoration Chapel.

 

CHAPEL OF ADORATION: UPDATE

The specially commissioned furniture for the Chapel is now in place, providing a warm and welcoming environment for prayerful and reverent adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

WEEKEND RETREAT

To celebrate the canonisation of Mother Teresa in Rome on Sunday 4th September, there will be a showing of the DVD ‘Mother Teresa and Her World’ on this Friday 16th September in the Iona Room at 10.00am, beginning with refreshments.

 

BALLYHACKAMORE MARKET

next Saturday 17th September, in the Church Car Park, from 10.00am – 2.00pm

 

FAMILY MASS

There will be a Family Mass next Sunday 18th September at 9.30am. Refreshments will be served in the Parish Hall after both the 9.30am and 11.30am Mass.

HEALING PROGRAMME

St Colmcille’s Holywood, Bethany Bereavement Support Group invites you to a 5 Week Healing Programme, commencing Thursday 29th September from 7.30pm to 9.00pm each evening and continuing for 5 consecutive weeks.  The programme is designed to help us understand more fully the grieving process and apply this to our personal grief journey.  If you would like to join us on this journey towards healing and wholeness or if you would like more information, please contact 07580 820872

During the summer, 34 members of the Unit participated in a week long camp in the Ardecehe Region of France. They took part in Canoeing, High Ropes, Archery, Abseiling and many more activities.

 Administration Support – Part Time

 

St Colmcilles Parish requires a part time permanent Administration Support who will provide general office duties and support to the Parish team and deliver their duties in a professional and effective manner.

You will be highly organised, possess good communication skills and effectively and positively work in a small team.  Competent in Microsoft Office, ideally possessing database updating skills, you will have the ability to manage and update the Parish website and social media.

This role requires a person who is consistently welcoming, helpful and respectful to all who come into contact with the Parish office.  You will be highly confidential and discreet.

There can be some flexibility around the working pattern but it is expected the hours will be Monday to Thursday 10.00 to 12.30 and Friday 10.00 to 13.00.  The salary is £7.50 per hour.
