11TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME – (Page 734, 452 & 499)

11th Week in Ordinary Time

Readings : Sunday Cycle B, Weekday Cycle 1, Psalter Week 3

O Lord, hear my voice, for I have called to you; be my help.  Do not abandon or forsake me, O God, my Saviour!
1st Reading (Ezekiel 17:22-24)  I make low trees grow.
Psalm It is good to give you thanks, O Lord.
2nd Reading (2 Corinthians 5:6-10)  Whether we are living in the body or exiled from it, we are intent on pleasing the Lord.
Acclamation Alleluia, alleluia!  I call you friends, says the Lord, because I have made known to you everything I have learnt from my Father.  Alleluia!
Gospel (Mark 4:26-34)   It is the smallest of all the seeds; yet it grows into the biggest shrub of them all.
Children Jesus taught the people about the kingdom of God.  He said it was like when a man planted a tiny mustard seed and it grew into a huge plant so big that birds built their nests in its branches.

There is one thing I ask of the Lord, only this do I seek: to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.

Would those who are last to leave the Parish grounds

in the evening please close the car park gates.

The Sacrament of Baptism is one of the most joyful occasions both for the family and the Parish and everyone is welcome.  The next Baptismal Course takes place this Tuesday in the Iona Room from 8.00pm to 9.30pm, where parents will receive their Baptismal pack and can arrange the date for their child’s Baptism. Baptisms in the Parish take place on the first and last Sunday of each month and attendance at the course is arranged through Philomena in the Parish Office.

Father John Gallagher SMA, the former Parish Priest of our twinned parish of Moita Bwawani, Tanzania, is celebrating, this weekend, his Silver Jubilee in his home town of Crossmolina, Co. Mayo. Please remember him in your prayers as he gives thanks to God for his 25 years in the Lord’s service and as he prepares for a new missionary challenge in the Philippines.

BAPTISM  –  we welcome into the parish family Finn Anthony Brannigan who was baptised in St. Colmcilles during the week.

ITS YOUR MOVE – is a four session programme that will be delivered to Primary 7 classes in the Parochial Hall in June, by a young adult team from the parish. The programme is interactive and scripture based. It helps young people to consider their hopes and fears, overcome their concerns and make right choices, in making the transition to the post primary setting.

PARISH CENSUS  –  is constantly changing due to new families moving into the parish, and existing families moving homes.  The parish makes a conscious effort to ensure the information we hold is correct and up to date, but we need help from all families to ensure this is done.  If you have moved into the parish and have not registered, please complete a yellow census card at the back of the Church, and place in the bulletin box.  If you have moved house please fill out a white card at the back of the Church, and again leave in the bulletin box.  Parishioners who are moving out of the parish are asked to inform Philomena in the office when they have moved.  Your co-operation in keeping our census up to date is appreciated.

SUMMER CHILDREN’S WEEK – application forms for the children’s holiday bible week ‘Under the Big Top’, from Monday 3rd to Friday 7th August, for 4 – 8 year olds,  are available in the Church Porch and from colmcilleyouth@yahoo.co.uk

EXAM BUDDIES–  all students  preparing for exams are invited to take an exam pack from the table in the Church porch and to place their name on the Exam Buddies notice board there. Parishioners are invited to place their name on the Prayer Sponsors board and then pray for the students over the exam period in May and June.

Annual Pilgrimage and Mass on St Patrick’s Mountain SAUL  –  will take place this Sunday at 3.00pm.  Bishop Noel Treanor will be the Celebrant.

Food Banks  –  the St.Vincent de Paul Society would like to draw Parishioners attention to the fact that a number of our local supermarkets have collection points for customer donations which are forwarded on to local Food Banks for distribution to those in need. Demand for the services of food banks is very high in the current economic climate. Please support these initiatives in any way you can.

MONEY MATTERS

Many thanks to all who contributed so generously to the collections.

PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION  –  will be taken up at all Masses next weekend.  This collection was started centuries ago to provide financial support for the Pope and has evolved as a resource to fund the Holy See’s charitable actions for those in need. The Peter’s Pence Collection is used by the Pope to support special charitable projects in developing countries as well as defraying expenses of the work of the Church. ‘Peter’s Pence’ is the most characteristic expression of the participation of all the faithful in the Bishop of Rome’s charitable initiatives in favour of the universal Church. The Pope, being Pastor of the whole Church, is attentive to the material needs of poor dioceses, religious institutes and of faithful in grave difficulties (the poor, children, the elderly, those marginalized and the victims of war or natural disasters; concrete aid to Bishops or dioceses in need, Catholic education, assistance to refugees and immigrants, etc.).

We pray for the repose of the souls of Father Colm Campbell, who died this week, Josie McMillan who died on Thursday and for Peggy McCrarren, whose month’s mind occurred during the week.  We also remember all those whose anniversaries occur at this time of year especially:

Teresa Kelly, Sean Coyle,  John Clarke  and  Mary Alice Clarke.

BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT  –  we can be contacted on 074 5698 9458.  Our members are Regiena Babu, Eileen Brogan, Eithne Daly, Maire Devine, Brenda McMeekin, David McMeekin, Celine Molloy, Joan Rogan and Lucy Traynor.
