11th Belfast St. Colmcilles, Scout Group
Another action packed summer for the Scout Group with Cubs and Scouts at camp and another fantastic performance in the “All Ireland” scoutcraft competition, the Phoenix.
25 Cubs had a great camp at Crawfordsburn at the end of June with plenty of on-site activities and trips off site to keep everyone very busy and entertained. This was followed with the scouts’ annual summer camp, this time to Gilwell Park , London. 31 Scouts had a brilliant time with plenty to do on-site and three trips off site into London, including a memorable trip to the London Dungeons. The camping standard was very high amongst the 6 patrols and a number of English and foreign scout leaders passed favourable comment on the camping skills of the scouts from the parish. Following summer camp, a patrol representing the troop participated in the Phoenix competition and having travelled to Limerick, competed with 101 other patrols drawn from all over Ireland for the Phoenix trophy. After 4 days of activities, the patrol representing St. Colmcille’s scouts achieved 12th position, a remarkable achievement and one we are very proud of. Well done to Ronan Cunningham, Eve Gilsennan, Robin Dane, Michael Walsh, Niamh Mallaghan, Conor Roberts, Sinead Lavery and Jemma Campbell. This is the 37th time since 1971 where the scouts have taken part in this competition, perhaps a record in itself.
Parents of current members of the Group are reminded of the Group camp at Crawfordsburn next weekend.
