REFUGEE CRISIS: WANT TO HELP?
There will be a special Parish “Fund for Food Aid” collection this weekend at all Masses. This proceeds from the collection will be divided between St. Vincent de Paul and Trocaire.

ARRANGEMENTS FOR BAPTISM IN OUR PARISH
The Sacrament of Baptism is one of the most joyful occasions both for the family and the Parish and everyone is welcome. The next Baptismal Course takes place on Tuesday 20th October evening in the Iona Room from 8.00pm to 9.30pm, where parents will receive their Baptismal pack and can arrange the date for their child’s Baptism. Baptisms in the Parish take place on the first and last Sunday of each month and attendance at the course is arranged through Philomena in the Parish Office.

“Come and See” Day – in St. Malachy’s Seminary, next Saturday from 10.00am to 4.00pm. Have you ever considered a vocation to the priesthood? Why not explore it further and come along to the “Come and See” day. This event will provide you with an opportunity to visit our Diocesan Seminary, to meet those young men who are studying for the priesthood and to spend time in prayer and reflection. THE ROSARY – everyone is invited to join in a parish nine day Rosary Novena for their own and/or other intentions, starting on Friday 23rd October. You may say the full Rosary each day or one decade of the Rosary, in order to take part in the parish Novena. Please encourage children and young people to join in too. Details and a Novena prayer are on a leaflet at the back of the Church. Meanwhile the Rosary will continued to be said after the weekday Masses. Resources are available in the Church porch.
THE WEDNESDAY WORD – is a national prayer mission which links parishes throughout the country through regular weekly prayer. The Wednesday Word contains the following Sunday’s scripture readings and reflections and is an excellent way of preparing to come to Mass. It is available each week at the back of the Church to take home. Please do consider starting to use this Christ centred, scripture based, method of praying, in spiritual solidarity with many parishioners throughout the country
JOHN PAUL 11 AWARD – enables young adults to become more actively involved in the life of their parish and community. It is open to students currently in Year 13 (6th year). As well as the feeling of personal achievement that they will gain from taking part in the award, participation will help to show future employers and educators that they can make an on-going commitment to a task. Commitment to the Award is for 16 months, during which time, each young person registers 20 sessions or activities in their parish and 20 sessions or activities in their community or with a charitable or social justice organization. SHOE BOX APPEAL – you are invited to participate in this scheme, to give a gift-filled shoe box to a disadvantaged child this Christmas. Leaflets and flat pack shoe boxes are available in the Church porch. Deadline for donating boxes is Sunday 1st November. Please leave your filled shoe box in the Church porch or Sacristy.

AN INSIGHT INTO SEEKING ASYLUM IN NORTHERN IRELAND – a talk will be given by Margaret McNulty, Information Officer for Embrace this Monday evening in the Parochial Hall at 7.30pm. Embrace is a group of Christians from different denominations whose primary role it to provide information and resources for Churches and individuals in order to make Northern Ireland a more welcoming place for minority – ethnic people. In view of the Syrian Crisis this is a most relevant talk by an expert in ths field.

LIVING YOUTH – Habitat for Humanity Ethiopia Team 2016: Following our successful Habitat for Humanity projects over the past three years Living Youth is excited to announce recruitment for another youth team due to travel to Ethiopia next summer. Provisional dates: 8th to 22nd August 2016. Applicants should be 18 years or over and all team members will be expected to contribute to the cost of the trip as well as engage in an extensive fundraising campaign. The budget for this trip is £2,000 p/p. This includes a non-refundable deposit, travel, in-country expenses and a £600 minimum donation to Habitat’s work. Advent Family Weekend in Corrymeela – back to school and already thinking about Christmas? 11th Belfast Scout Group, St. Colmcilles
Group Camp – the Group held a very successful Group camp at Crawfordsburn Scout Centre recently. A total of 77 youth members with 13 leaders enjoyed a weekend of fun and activities, ably facilitated by the 12 Venture Scouts also present at the camp. The Saturday BBQ saw a total of 165 people served tasty hotdogs and hamburgers with loads of appetising salads and refreshing drinks. All in all a great start to the year. We now have waiting lists for our Cub Pack and Scout Troop, both having in excess of 40 members.
Reunion Dinner – to mark the 50th anniversary since the re start of the Scouts in the parish, a 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner Dance has been arranged for the 6th February 2016 in the Stormont Hotel. All ex members of the Group, leaders and committee people are invited to attend, as are all parents and supporters. The Scout Group has been an integral part of the youth provision in St. Colmcilles Parish during good and bad times and it’s fitting that we celebrate the continued success of the Group. Please let family members no longer living in the parish know of this event. A dedicated Facebook page will be developed and further details about the reunion will be given as they become available.

A Concert by Candlelight – to be given by the Irish Harp Orchestra in collaboration with the combined choirs of St. Patrick’s Parish, Belfast and Assumption Grammar School, Ballynahinch. Hidden Pearls – is a retreat day, on Saturday 24th October, for people with learning disabilities, their friends, families and carers.
