TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME  (Page 875, 452, 499)

12th week in Ordinary Time

Readings : Sunday Cycle C, Weekday Cycle 2, Psalter Week 4

Entrance       The Lord is the strength of his people, a saving refuge for the one

Antiphon       he has anointed.  Save your people, Lord and bless your heritage, and govern

them for ever.

1st Reading  (Zechariah 12:10-11; 13:1) They will look on the one whom they have pierced

Psalm 62        R. For you my soul is thirsting, O God, my God.

2nd Reading   (Galatians 3:26-29)  All baptised in Christ, you have all clothed yourselves

                         in Christ.

Acclamation   Alleluia, alleluia!  I am the light of the world, says the Lord, anyone who

follows me will have the light of life.

Gospel          (Luke 9:18-24)  You are the Christ of God. The Son of Man is destined to

                        suffer grievously.

Children:      Jesus asked his followers: “Who do you think I am?”  Some said names

they heard from other people.  But Peter said, “You are the Christ of God.”  Then Jesus

warned them that he was going to suffer, but that after he died he  would rise up on the

third day.  He warned his followers that if they carried on following him, they too

would have lots of difficulties on earth, but they would be  rewarded with eternal life.

Communion  Alleuia, alleluia! I am the light of the world, says the Lord, anyone who

Antiphon       follows me will have the light of life. Alleluia!

FRIDAY MORNING – you are invited to meet in the Iona Room this Friday at 10.00am for coffee and chat, to reflect on today’s feast of the Nativity of St John the Baptist, with the help of a couple of video clips. The liturgy invites us to celebrate the Solemnity of the Birth of St John the Baptist, whose life was totally devoted to Christ, as was that of Christ’s Mother, Mary. John the Baptist was the forerunner, the “voice”, sent to proclaim the Incarnate Word. Thus, when we commemorate his birth, it means we are celebrating Christ, and the fulfillment of the promises of all the prophets, among whom the greatest was the Baptist, called to “prepare the way” for the Messiah.
