Psalm The Lord is my light and my help.
2nd Reading (Philippians 3:17-4:1)  Christ will transfigure our bodies into copies of his glorious body.

Gospel (Luke 9:28-36)  As Jesus prayed, the aspect of his face was changed.
Children Jesus went up a hill with three disciples.  Jesus looked different and his clothes were shiny white.  Suddenly he was talking to Moses and Elijah, prophets who had lived long ago, about how he would have to die.  Then a cloud covered them and a voice was  heard.  The voice said that Jesus was God’s Son and that we should listen to him.

Gospel (Luke 4:21-30)  Like Elijah and Elisha, Jesus is not sent to the Jews only.
Children Jesus tells the people that God loves everyone just the same.  This makes some people angry because they think that they are more special than anyone else.
Communion Antiphon Let your face shine on your servant.  Save me in your merciful love.  O Lord, let me never be put to shame, for I call on you.

CONFIRMATION SUNDAY

“Come Holy Spirit; fill the hearts of your faithful.”

Confirmation is a time of Christian commitment and renewal, a time of courage and growth.  How appropriate that Confirmation in this parish usually occurs at the beginning of Spring, a time of new life, a time of year when plants have the courage to show their roots above the cold hard ground.

This Sunday we celebrate the conferring of the Sacrament of Confirmation on young people of our parish.  The visiting prelate is Bishop Noel Treanor and we welcome him to St. Colmcille’s.  This is an occasion of great joy for the whole parish.  It is a time for all of us to renew our commitment to our Christian calling.

Today we pray that the Holy Spirit will come into the lives of all who are asking to be confirmed in their faith.  We pray for: James Babu, Erris Boyle, Christopher Campbell, Hannah Carroll, Ryan Carson, Luke Cusick, Maja Czechowska, Tara Dawson, Rosa Gillespie, Conor Hardon, Chloe Harkin, Niamh Hatfield,  Finn Hutchinson, Tom Kaimoolayail Bijo, Niall Kennedy, Katy Kernohan, Lauren MacAirt, Raphael Magdale, Killian Marshall, Aneesha Mathew, Odhrán McCallum, John McCarney, Liam McCloskey, Erin McClure, James McCourt, Anna McElroy, Mick McGuinness, Martha McKinney, Ciara McManus, Isabella McMullan, Ronan McPeake, Dominic McQuillan, Laura Mitchell, Catherine Muir, Louis Napier, Emmet O’Kane, Fionn O’Neill, Roksana Pazera, Ashleigh M Penaranda, Michael Sinclair, Ava Small, Connie Small, Katrine Swerhun, Daniel Vance, Brendan White and Kacper Zak.

“Send forth your Holy Spirit and they shall be created,

and you shall renew the face of the Earth.”

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK

Begins this Sunday and ends next Sunday. The theme for Catholic Schools Week 2016 is: ‘Catholic Schools – Challenged to Proclaim God’s Mercy’.  This is an opportunity to celebrate the unique contribution that Catholic schools, both primary and post-primary, make to the mission of the Church in our local faith communities and throughout the wider church.

MINISTRY IN PARISH

The success of building this parish into an open and welcoming faith community is due to the work of those involved in the various parish pastoral ministries. Through serving others, they are responding to the words of Jesus “Love one another as I have loved you’.  Many pastoral activities go on in a quiet way in the background and can go unnoticed.

Those who are involved in leading, coordinating and assisting, with the numerous pastoral activities, have been invited to a gathering next Saturday: 9.30am -1.00pm in the Parochial Hall, in order to acknowledge the invaluable contribution they make to the life of the parish community.

The morning will begin with refreshments and finish with a light lunch. Sean Goan will facilitate and give us his insights into the whole area of service and pastoral ministry in the context of the gospel. He hopes to encourage us personally and show how we as a parish can be a ‘Door of Mercy’ in bringing an experience of the love and mercy of Jesus to others, in this Year of Mercy.

BAPTISM

The Sacrament of Baptism is one of the most joyful occasions both for the family and the Parish and everyone is welcome.  The next Baptismal Course takes place on Tuesday 16th February in the Iona Room from 8.00pm to 9.30pm, where parents will receive their Baptismal pack and can arrange the date for their child’s Baptism.
