Entrance

Antiphon

Men of Galilee, why gaze in wonder at the heavens?  This Jesus whom you saw ascending into heaven will return as you saw him go, alleluia.
1st Reading (Acts 1:1-11)  He was lifted up while they looked on.
Psalm God goes up with shouts of joy; the Lord goes up with trumpet blast.
2nd Reading (Ephesians 1:17-23)  He made him sit at his right hand in heaven.
Acclamation Alleluia, alleluia!  Go, make disciples of all the nations; I am with you always; yes, to the end of time.  Alleluia!
Gospel (Mark 16:15-20)   He was taken up into heaven: there at the right hand of God he took his place.
Children Jesus came to his disciples and told them he had important work for them to do.  The disciples must tell everyone the good news that God’s love makes people happy.  Jesus wants his friends to show God’s love to others by their actions as well as words.  Then Jesus left them and was taken to heaven.  God was with the disciples as they did what Jesus asked.

There will be table top sales, tea and coffee, and the Church will be open for prayer for those who are suffering.  The plight of persecuted Christians has been widely publicised in recent times.  The video of twenty-one Coptic Christians being marched along the beach to be beheaded was one of the saddest scenes of all, but it was only the tip of the iceberg.   Many people have been dismayed by what is happening, would like to help but don’t know how to.  All of the money raised will be used to support those who are suffering in the Middle East.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

Is one of the most memorable and joyful days in a child’s life and represents a sign of growth on their faith journey and the love of God for each and every child, since in the Eucharist we receive Christ Himself. Parents who put forward their child for First Holy Communion are fulfilling the vow they made publicly at their child’s Baptism, to be the ‘first and best teachers of the child in the ways of faith’. The home is the place where our children’s faith is nurtured, nourished and sustained. Parents have been supported by the school Alive O programme, sacramental parents meetings and the parish Do This In Memory Of Me Sunday Mass. Acclamation Alleluia, alleluia!  Make your home in me, as I make mine in you.  Whoever remains in me bears fruit in plenty.  Alleluia!
Gospel (John 15:1-8)   Whoever remains in me, with me in him, bears fruit in plenty.
Children Jesus said he is like a vine.  All his followers are like the branches.  Jesus’ followers need to stay with him so they can be looked after.  If his followers listen to him and do as Jesus asks, they will be fruitful.

Antiphon
